Sean Murphy is an artist, educator, and psychiatric clinician who moved from Chicago to the desert after falling in love with all parts of the Coachella Valley—its people, climate, location, and natural beauty. Paint is a medium through which I explore connections between the arts, literary/critical theories, and science. Visual art also serves as a space for me to digest and metabolize emotions associated with clinical practice. I hold a PhD in Literature, Cultural Theory, and Social Practice, and I was a tenured professor of Humanities before becoming a psychiatric nurse practitioner. My art is published in Medical Humanities, Diacritics: A Review of Contemporary Criticism, American Journal of Nursing, Journal of the American Association of Nurse Practitioners, and Hektoen International: A Journal of Medical Humanities.
